OHSU FAMILY MEDICINE
Residency Chief/Faculty Development Fellowship


This is a one-year Residency Instructor position in Family Medicine, serving as Instructor for the Department of Family Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University. The Instructor will be recommended to the Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine by the Residency Director in Family Medicine. This is a fourth year position. The Instructor will have responsibilities in patient care, teaching, administration, and self-education.

Patient Care Responsibilities

Attending Responsibilities
  • The Instructor will act as the attending physician on the OHSU Family Medicine Inpatient Service for two to four weeks. The Instructor's direct supervisor on this rotation will be the Residency Director in Family Medicine

  • The Instructor will work in their assigned Family Medicine Clinic four-half days per week seeing patients including one evening clinic session.

  • The Instructor will be included in the obstetrical care of patients including service on the labor and delivery unit.

Consultations
  • The Instructor will facilitate consultations and transfers of family medicine patients from outlying hospitals and providers to the Family Medicine Inpatient Service.

Educational Responsibilites

House Staff

  • The Residency Instructor will precept in the family medicine clinic one-half day per week.

  • The Residency Instructor will assist the PGY-3 residents in coordinating daily morning report.

  • The Instructor, along with the Residency Director, will coordinate the yearly schedule of noon conferences in the family medicine clinics.

Medical Students

  • The Residency Instructor will be available to precept medical students in clinic including taking a full-time half-day a week student in the Principles of Clinical Medicine first or second year preceptorship.

  • The Instructor will be available to be a group leader in first or second year PCM for at least one quarter during the year.

Administrative Responsibilites

Schedules

  • The Instructor will coordinate and lead the monthly curriculum Committee meetings of both residents and faculty, and the monthly resident forum.

  • The Instructor will act as liaison among family medicine house staff, and between residents and faculty.

  • The Instructor will act as liaison between the Family Medicine Residency Program and other Residency Programs within and outside OHSU working with faculty and Residency Instructors from those training programs.

  • The Instructor will be available to deal with absences and assign the resident on jeopardy.

  • The Instructor will act as liaison with the AHEC programs throughout the state as it relates to the role these programs take in training Family Medicine residents.

  • The Instructor will participate in weekly Residency section, Departmental and all faculty meetings.

  • The Instructor will enroll in the department’s Faculty development program as a full participant.

  • The Instructor will oversee the Wednesday afternoon conference series.

Call Responsibilities

  • The Instructor will take attending call during his or her two to four weeks on the Inpatient Service. He/she will not be required to take primary jeopardy calls.

Self Evaluation/Research/Fellowship

  • The Instructor will pursue another scholarly endeavor of his or her choice during the academic year.

  • This activity will be approved by the Residency Director and Department Chair in Family Medicine.
