Stipends and
Fees
Years
1, 4, 5 and 6 OMFS residents receive full resident stipend currently
ranging from $45,600 to $57,800.
Tuition
fees are required during years 2 and 3 in the School of Medicine.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residents admitted to OHSU with
out-of-state status will receive a tuition waiver from the School
of Medicine that will equal the difference between resident and
non-resident tuition. During years 2 and 3 there will be six tuition
terms and one term of fees only. Residents pay School of Medicine
tuition for three terms in 2nd year, and four terms in 3rd year.
During 4th year, residents pay fees only, no tuition. Residents
will be eligible for financial aid during 2nd year (starting July
1st) and 3rd year in the School of Medicine.

* When
OMFS Residents are attending SOM, they are required to purchase
OHSU major medical insurance and dental insurance or a policy
approved by OHSU. The major medical and dental insurance requirement
may be waived if the student shows satisfactory proof of equivalent
insurance and signs a statement agreeing to keep it in force during
the academic period for which the fees are being paid. The dental
insurance fee is charged during the Fall, Winter and Spring terms
only.
All residents
spend a minimum of four months on the anesthesia
service. An elective month may be available during the 5th
year of the program during which time you are on general surgery
rotation or previous residents have utilized this for extramural
experience either within the United States or abroad.
All
applications must be made through PASS (Postdoctoral
Application Support Service). All applicants must have graduated
from an ADA accredited U.S. or Canadian dental school. All applicants
must have citizenship or resident alien status with a green card
indicating they are a permanent resident of the United States.
Resident aliens are encouraged to have at least one year of full-time
college work at a university or college in the United States.
Resident aliens are more competitive if they can speak English
fluently. Applicants are selected for admission regardless of
race, gender, age, religion, national origin, color, marital status
or disabilities.
It is
the responsibility of the applicant to arrange to have three letters
of recommendation sent. One must be from the Dean of the dental
school the applicant attended. If a general practice residency,
internship, fellowship or other postdoctoral training has been
completed or is currently being completed, it is required that
one of the letters be from the director of the program. Transcripts
from your dental school are also required. A personal essay of
50 words or more stating reasons for seeking advanced education
in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is necessary. Applications will
not be considered complete unless all the required material is
received.
Do not
send your application directly to the OMFS department at OHSU.
All of the required application information must be acknowledged
through PASS.
THE DEADLINE
FOR APPLICATION SUBMITTAL, LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION, ESSAY AND
TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE RECEIVED BY PASS BY OCTOBER 2, 2007.
