CLASSIC LITERATURE REVIEW SEMINAR
TREATMENT OF MEDICALLY COMPROMISED PATIENTS
SPRING, 2007

Each resident will be assigned one the following medical conditions (by the resident president).  Please research your condition and present your findings with references.  Include the following aspects in your report:

  • basic physiology of the condition
  • common medications used to treat the condition
  • possible considerations, complications, or alterations in dental treatment and medication usage.
  • treatment of medical emergency involving the condition

And the conditions are:

Diabetes
Hypertension/history of MI, angina
Liver disease
Kidney disease (including dialysis)
HIV
Adrenal Suppression

In addition,  the following articles will be read/abstracted as usual.

Objectives
-Be familiar with some of the more common medically compromising situations   seen in practice
-Be more prepared to treat complications or emergencies
-Be more prepared to act as a source of information to your referring dentists
