Since
1899, the OHSU School of Dentistry has fulfilled its founders'
promise to provide the best possible education to the Northwest's
dental students. Today that history of distinction continues.
The school has more qualified applicants than it can accept.
The faculty is highly qualified and is committed to facilitating
the education of each individual student while providing an
outstanding learning experience for all students. An interactive
research environment prevails with many productive research
scientists on the faculty who enhance teaching and treatment
programs with their own first-hand investigations in both
clinical and basic sciences.
OHSU is
a tier 1 school because of its clinical reputation, in-house
basic scientists, on-going research, access to PhD programs,
bioengineering programs and affiliations, and location within
an academic center.
Maintaining
this valued reputation and advancing the School creates unique
challenges. Gifts from alumni and friends provide the support
necessary for the School to achieve its mission of excellence. |
Annual
Support
To
prepare for the future, the school must do more than build on its
tradition of excellence. It must actively build critical new programs
and facilities and support outstanding students and faculty. With
this in mind, the Dean's
Gold Circle was established.
The
Dean's Gold Circle recognizes alumni, friends and faculty who take
a leadership role in supporting the OHSU School of Dentistry. Membership
is awarded to donors who contribute $1,000 or more annually. Gifts
may support any program or initiative, but unrestricted gifts provide
the Dean with the greatest flexibility to address priorities as
they arise.
There
are three giving levels within the Dean's
Gold Circle:
$1,000
- $4,999 - Dean's Gold Circle Member
$5,000
- $9,999 - Dean's Gold Circle Fellow
$10,000
and above - Dean's Gold Circle Master

Endowments
An
endowed fund is a permanent fund established for a specific purpose.
A percentage of the income earned by the endowment fund is used
to support the purpose designated by the donor. The remaining interest
is reinvested with the principle to allow for growth of the fund.
Each endowed fund held by the Oregon Health & Science University
Foundation retains a separate identity, however the endowed funds
may be pooled for the purposes of investment and diversification.
How
Endowments are Funded
While
endowments can be established with current cash gifts, they are
more often funded with charitable bequests in a person's will, or
through a variety of charitable trusts. These tax-structured devices
make it easier for a family to make a meaningful endowed gift. (For
more information on charitable trusts and bequests click here)
Endowed
Teaching Positions
Endowed
academic chairs and professorships are critical to the School's
ability to hire and maintain a first-rate teaching and research
facility. Income from an endowed faculty position can be used to
support the salary of an outstanding faculty member, or to support
research, or for any activity that is deemed critical to the success
of an academic department.
Endowed
Chairs - $2,000,000
Endowed
Professorships - $1,000,000
Endowed
Visiting Professorships - $500,000
Endowed
Fellowships - $100,000
Endowed
Scholarships
Scholarship
endowments are the key to keeping admission to the OHSU School of
Dentistry open to the best and brightest students. As financial
support from the state continues to decline, student debt loads
continue to increase. To remain competitive we must substantially
increase our number of endowed scholarships.
Minimum
funding Required - $50,000
Endowed
Research
Includes
faculty or student support, materials and equipment, and publication
expenses. OHSU School of Dentistry continues to be competitive in
securing research grant dollars. Additional support in this area
opens the door for innovation and discover, and funds worthy projects.
Minimum
funding Required - $50,000
Endowments
for Excellence
Endowments
for Excellence are designated by the donor to provide discretionary
support for positions and programs that promote excellence. They
can be created to support the dental school as a whole or designated
to a particular program (i.e. the department of endodontics) or
an initiative (i.e. to support pediatric dental care fo children
from uninsured families).
Minimum
funding Required - $100,000
