Welcome to the OHSU School of Dentistry Alumni Association website. This site is provided to alumni, students and visitors as a resource for finding the latest information about the school and the activities of the Alumni Association. In addition, this site is helpful in keeping information about our alumni up-to-date.

In our efforts to continue to serve you, please keep us informed of any changes in email, work, or home addresses. Also, feel free to utilize this site to list information in the Opportunities section or send us information you would like included in the Class Notes section of Caementum. With this information, we can keep you and other alumni up to date about current and future Alumni activities.

We had a great turnout for our annual alumni meeting in April during Oregon Dental Conference Weekend, with nearly 200 attendees dining on roast beef and taking a stroll down memory lane. It was super to catch up with classmates and those dental friends there for reunions, especially those with classes ending in “3” and “8.” There were alumni in attendance from as far away as Australia! Amazing. For those of you I didn’t see at the Alumni Association’s Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon, hopefully next year.

One of the things that struck me at the meeting was how many dedicated and involved alumni the School of Dentistry has in our midst. It was obvious by the well-attended meeting and the number of awards presented that we are one lucky dental school.

The Alumni Association has had a strong year with many accomplishments. One of the most recent was passage of a proposal changing the Alumni Association bylaws to eliminate annual dues. The proposal passed unanimously at the April meeting and the bylaws change takes effect immediately (see Spring 2008 Caementum for more details).

With the bylaws change, the Alumni Association and its various events and activities now will be paid for through the Dean’s Office. Dean Jack Clinton, D.M.D. `64 recognizes and the Board of Directors agrees that all graduates of OHSU are, in fact, members of the alumni association. We hope this change will encourage more of you to give back to the school with your time and expertise.

We do a lot of official alumni business at our annual meeting. I didn’t really know how important it was to attend the annual meeting until I joined the Board!

As well as votes on our future, updates on the school, and numerous honors, our annual meeting means we say goodbye to board members old and new. Four new members joined the board in April including Connie Masuoka, D.M.D. `88, Nirvana Shahidzadeh, D.M.D. `07, Scott Barry, D.M.D. `96, and Ann (Brant) Caingcoy, R.D.H. `77, a past president who is returning to the board.
Geoff Berg, D.M.D. `01, Claire Campbell, D.M.D. `96, Steve Kovar, D.M.D. `95, Sue LaFranchise, R.D.H. `74, Jim McMahan, D.M.D. `82, and Marc Nordstrom, D.M.D. `96 have completed their terms of board service and we thank them for their hard work.

In addition, two Past Presidents Magda D’Angelis-Morris, D.M.D. ’99 and Cathryn Majeran, D.M.D. `79, completed their terms of board service and we are particularly grateful for their leadership and guidance on the board.

We also elected board officers at the annual meeting. The board officers for the 2008-2009 term are: James Alder, D.M.D. `82 (president); David Kreutzer, D.M.D. `00 (vice president); Steve Beadnell, D.M.D. `80 (secretary/treasurer); and myself (immediate past president). It has been a pleasure to be your president this past year. Working for you and our school brought back so many pleasant memories and I have learned so much about the School of Dentistry. I feel great not just about our past, but where we are headed in the future. Thank you for the opportunity to serve.
