Awards Criteria

Honorary Alumnus
Any individual who has made a substantial and material contribution to the science of dentistry or to the dental hygiene welfare of the members of this association may be granted an honorary membership. Dentists and Dental Hygienists are not eligible for this honor.

Alumnus of the Year
The John C. Peterson Alumnus of the Year Award was created to recognize John Peterson for his years of service to the Alumni Association. Dr. Peterson served as our Alumni President; was recognized as the Alumnus of the Year; and was the Alumni Association’s Liaison with the School. As liaison he would spend two or three days a week in the Alumni Office, helping the staff with contacts and projects. His insight and fresh ideas helped establish the Back To School Lecture, the POMPS program and the around-the-state CE courses. The recipient of this award should demonstrate the qualities that John Peterson displayed as an advocate for dentists and dental hygienists, taking an active role in guiding the future of their community, their School, and the dental profession.

Presidential Award
The President's Award is awarded each year by the Alumni Association President to the person of his or her choosing. There is no formal criteria for this award, it is based on the President's discretion.
