Novel Imaging of Lymph Nodes in Patients with Rectal Cancer Using Ferumoxytol Enhanced MRI
The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of an imaging agent, ferumoxytol, with MRI prior to treatment. By looking primarily at the feasibility of obtaining these images there may be potential for developing future research in this area.
Locally advanced rectal cancer
Patients 18 years of age and older with rectal cancer that have not had prior therapy for the condition. The cancer must be local and not have spread to other parts of the body. Patients with iron-related allergies will be excluded because ferumoxytol is an iron-based agent.

Healthy Volunteers Needed
Duration of Participation
Participation will not affect overall duration of treatment. The study includes 4 additional visits (2 prior to chemotherapy/radiation, and 2 prior to surgery). Your doctor will determine how long the full treatment course will take, but it is usually between 12-14 weeks.
