PVAMC / OHSU J: The Effect of Levodopa on Postural Motor Learning in Parkinson Disease
The purpose of this study is to better understand how a medication commonly prescribed to people with Parkinson disease (levodopa) affects balance, and how people learn to improve balance.
Parkinson's Disease. Healthy older adults will also be recruited
No neurological disorders other than diagnosed idiopathic Parkinson disease
Ability to stand for at least 1 hour
No orthopaedic injuries which seriously alter gait or balance
History of seizures or epilepsy
No implanted electrical devices (deep brain stimulator, pacemaker, etc).

Duration of Participation
Individuals with Parkinson disease: 4 visits over 8 weeks
Healthy older adults: 2 visits on consecutive days.
Funding applied for through the National Institutes of Health
$20 per visit completed
Healthy older adults could be paid a maximum of $40 (2 visits)
Individuals with Parkinson disease could be paid a maximum of $80 (4 visits)
