Omega 3 PUFA for the vascular component of age-related cognitive decline

Study Purpose

Determine if an omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) can alter brain structure and function compared to a placebo over 3 years.

Medical Condition(s)

Age-related cognitive decline/dementia

Eligibility Criteria

Age 80 and older
Low PUFA in your bloodstream (potential participants will be tested)
Non-demented older adults at risk for cognitive decline
MRI measurement that indicates risk for cognitive decline (potential participants will be tested, may not have contraindications to MRI)
May not have insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus
May not be taking Warfarin (Coumadin)
