PVAMC / OHSU: MS Free From Falls: A Pilot Study

Study Purpose

The purpose of this study is to learn if fall frequency in Multiple Sclerosis can be reduced after participating in the National MS Society’s (NMSS) classroom program "Free From Falls" (FFF). This 8-week class will be offered to all research subjects free of charge.

Medical Condition(s)

We will look at the number of falls that you reported prior to the start of class, during the 8-week class session, and for 8 weeks following the last class.

Eligibility Criteria

-Must have MS of any type
-Age 18 years or older
-Able to walk at least 100 meters with intermittent or unilateral constant assistance
-At least 2 falls in previous 2 months
-Clinically stable MS with no relapses in last 30 days
-Daily access to email

18 - 99

Healthy Volunteers Needed


Duration of Participation

This study requires 9 visits to the OHSU Center for Health & Healing at Portland's South Waterfront. It also requires the completion of daily fall calendars during the entire 8-week class program, and for 8 weeks following the end of class. Total participation time is 16 weeks. Each visit to CHH will last 2 hours or less and occur once per week. Fall calendars will be completed daily at your home.
