RTOG 1008: A Randomized Phase II Study of Adjuvant Concurrent Radiation and Chemotherapy Versus Radiation Alone in Resected High-Risk Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors

Study Purpose

To test whether the use of chemotherapy drugs with radiation will improve the results after surgery and radiation alone.

Medical Condition(s)

Salivary gland cancer

Eligibility Criteria

1. Diagnosis of a malignant major salivary gland tumor or malignant minor
salivary gland tumor of the head and neck
2. Surgical resection with curative intent within 8 weeks prior to registration
3. Age 18+
4. Additional eligibility requirements apply

Duration of Participation

The treatment phase of the study lasts for 6 to 7 weeks. Follow-up exams will be done 3 months after radiation therapy. Additional follow-ups will be done 6, 9, 12, 18, and 24 months from the start of radiation for the first 2 years, then every 6 months for years 3 and 4, and then once a year for life.
