  InfoEd Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL

My proposals are showing up twice in the 'Show/List' view.

I see other proposals of mine in the search results, but I didn't create them in InfoEd PD.

After I've created my proposal, it displays as a 'Non-Competing Renewal' when I try to open it back up.

Do NIH eSNAPS and SNAPS use InfoEd?

I've accessed my proposal but I can't make any changes. Why?

My proposals are showing up twice in the 'Show/List' view.
If you use the 'Show/List' feature you'll notice that some proposals may be listed twice. This is a known InfoEd issue and it's being investigated. Only one proposal exists in the system; you may select either one to access the proposal.

I see other proposals of mine in the search results, but I didn't create them in InfoEd PD.
The proposals you're creating in InfoEd PD all begin with the number '1'. Because RGC uses another InfoEd module (PT) for tracking ALL proposals reviewed by RGC, you may see other proposals of yours beginning with '9' in your search results. These were entered by RGC for previous submissions, and there is no action required on your part for these proposals beginning with '9'.

After I've created my proposal, it displays as a 'Non-Competing Renewal' when I try to open it back up.
This issue is a display error and has been logged with InfoEd. As long as the 424 face page contains the correct application type (see box 8), the application is correct and will be appropriately identified by NIH.

Do NIH eSNAPS and SNAPS use InfoEd?
No, InfoEd is used for new applications, resubmissions, and competing renewals only. NIH has indicated that the current paper or eSNAP process (via NIH Commons) should be used for non-competing renewals.

I've accessed my proposal but I can't make any changes. Why?
The likely cause is that two or more individuals are logged into that proposal. Only one user may be making edits at a time. When you are initially opening up the proposal, look for a yellow checkbox underneath the folder icon. If one is present, it means that someone else is in the proposal and you will be unable to make edits. To see who is in the proposal, click on the checkbox. Remember to always click the 'Done' button when closing out of proposals.

NEW PROPOSAL QUESTIONNAIRE/SETUP QUESTIONS

How do I create a proposal for an 'unsolicited' or 'investigator-initiated' application?

I'm having trouble locating a Program/Opportunity Number for the Parent R21.

How do I answer the question "Is this an un-solicited application?" on the Setup Questions page?

How do I create a proposal for an 'unsolicited' or 'investigator-initiated' application?
If you're creating a proposal for what was formerly known as an 'unsolicited' or 'investigator-initiated' R01, the new term is 'Parent'. On the New Proposal Questionnaire in the SPIN search field type in "Parent R01" to find the right PA (PA-07-070). Please note that it is R01 with a zero, not a letter 'o'.

I'm having trouble locating a Program/Opportunity Number for the Parent R21.
To locate the Parent R21, type in 'parent R21' in the SPIN search field. It should be near the top of the search results.

How do I answer the question "Is this an un-solicited application?" on the Setup Questions page?
Please make sure to indicate 'No' to the question "Is this an un-solicited application?" on the Setup Questions page, as now all announcements are 'solicited'. Please contact your GCA if you are unsure which announcement to select.

UPLOADING PROPOSAL DOCUMENTS

Do I have to upload a PDF file?

I am getting an error message that says my uploaded document must be 8.5 x 11? How can I fix this?

Do I have to upload a PDF file?
No, the system will convert the file uploaded to a PDF.

I am getting an error message that says my uploaded document must be 8.5 x 11? How can I fix this?
See Appendix D in the 1.1 of the Training Materials:
http://ozone.ohsu.edu/research/rgc/docs/InfoEdDocuments/1.1CreateNewProposal.doc

BUDGET

I have added a subcontractor to my proposal, but the $25,000 F&A calculation is not working properly?

I have added a subcontractor to my proposal, but the $25,000 F&A calculation is not working properly?
This is a known issue in the system that InfoEd is working on resolving. In the meantime, you can fix this by selecting a different F&A scheme from the dropdown at the top and saving. Then set the F&A scheme back to the appropriate value and save. Now the F&A should be calculating the $25,000 correctly.

ROUTING/APPROVAL

I can't access the Reviewer Dashboard from the email InfoEd sent.

When building the approval route, who do I add?

I've submitted a proposal to route, but now I can't make changes. Why?

I can't access the Reviewer Dashboard from the email InfoEd sent.
When trying to access the Reviewer Dashboard from within the GroupWise emails, "View as HTML" must be enabled in order for the hyperlinks to function properly. From within the email, click on 'View' and ensure that 'HTML' is selected rather than 'Plain Text'. Otherwise, the reviewer will get an access-related error message.

When building the approval route, who do I add?
You need to add any required approvers that previously signed the paper PPQ. Since each department is different, the PI or Department Admin creating the route will need to identify those individuals whose electronic signatures are required. The GCA will validate that all appropriate signatures have been obtained.

I've submitted a proposal to route, but now I can't make changes. Why?
After a proposal has been submitted to route for review and approval, changes to the proposal (except for science on the Research Plan) may not be made until the route reaches the GCA. The GCA will unlock the proposal when modifications can be made. This lockdown is required in order to ensure that all reviewers/approvers access the same proposal. It will also eliminate issues reviewers/approvers have if accessing a proposal where changes were made. Please contact your GCA to discuss your options and the appropriate time for changes to be made.
