  • If you need a specific type of funding support, limit your search by entering terms in the "Types of Support" field. This is generally utilized when searching for capital, equipment or event-specific funding.

  • Limit your search to foundations that fund nationally or in Oregon specifically. Type Oregon or national in the "Geographic Focus" field.

  • Click "Search" when you have finished entering your search terms.

  • A new page with a list of foundations meeting your search criteria will be displayed. Each foundation name can be clicked on for further detail.

  • Clicking on the blue "Foundation Name," "City, State" or "Total Giving" headers will reorganize the data according to that qualifier.

  • Click on the name of a foundation to see its profile.

  • A pop-up window will appear showing a detailed profile on the foundation. If the foundation has a website, a direct link will be included. Search criteria will be highlighted in red text.

  • Clicking on the yellow tab "People" will bring up further information regarding board and staff members. Clicking on the yellow tab "990s" will bring up a copy of the foundation's most recent IRS filings.

  • To print a foundation's profile, press ctrl+P.

  • To save a foundation's profile, select the text and click Copy on the Edit menu on your toolbar. Open Microsoft Word and Paste the profile into the document. Then click Save on the File menu on your toolbar.

Sample search method #2: Using the index of search terms
  • Click on the "Fields of Interest" header to bring up an alphabetical list of fields of interest. Click on the letter in the alphabetical list that corresponds to the first letter of a term relating to your project area.

  • Scroll through the list of terms and click on the search terms that best relate to your project area.

  • Selecting multiple search terms will increase the breadth of your search. Navigate between alphabetical lists by clicking on different letters under the Fields of Interest heading.

  • When multiple search terms are selected, the database includes all the terms you've selected by placing "or" between the terms.

  • Click "Search" when you have finished entering your search terms.

  • A list of qualifying foundations will appear. Click on any column header to re-sort your results. The new results will open in a new page.

  • If you'd like to limit the search to include foundations with interests in all of the terms you've selected, replace the default "or" with "and."

  • The list of qualifying foundations will be smaller.

Sample search method #3: Entering a text search
  • Entering search terms in the "Text Search" field will yield a list of foundations that contain the terms somewhere in their profile.

  • This technique is useful when searching for a very specific term that is not listed in the "Fields of Interest" option. It may also be used to search for foundation board members or trustees.

  • This type of search tends to produce a limited list.
