Private foundations provide millions of dollars in critical support each year for important OHSU programs. The OHSU Foundation exists to
build on private philanthropic support for OHSU and to invest and manage gifts responsibly in accordance with donors' wishes. The
OHSU Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that raises funds from individuals, companies, foundations and organizations in support
of OHSU initiatives.
The Foundation Relations department of the OHSU Foundation assists faculty and staff in working with and applying to private foundations
for research and program funding. We are responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding private foundation prospects
to promote and advance university goals and priorities.
- Help identify potential private foundations for research projects or programs
- Advise on proposal development and structure for philanthropic marketplace
- Review and edit proposals to private foundations
- Provide standard information and attachments requested by private foundations for proposal submissions (tax-exempt status, audited
financial statements, board lists, budgets, annual reports, etc.)
- Consult on progress reports and stewardship activity
- Coordinate the submission and stewardship of Collins Medical Trust proposals
- Manage the OHSU clearance and President's List process for private foundations
- Facilitate solicitation strategies to match grant opportunities with appropriate OHSU programs
- Consult on preparation, submission and stewardship of proposals to private foundations in support of major university priorities
- Manage stewardship activity between faculty/staff and private foundations
- Coordinate site visits with program officers and trustees of private foundations
Foundation Relations works closely with Research Funding & Development Services located in the Office of the Vice President for Research.
Together, our offices assist the OHSU community in identifying funding opportunities, submitting grants and supporting OHSU's mission.
