Searching the Foundation Directory Online for potential funders

The Foundation Directory Online is a service that the OHSU Foundation subscribes to that provides an unsurpassed level of comprehensive and accurate information on U.S. private foundations and their grants. Links are available to foundation web sites, IRS filings and philanthropy news. The database can be accessed at http://fconline.fdncenter.org/.

Search Instructions

1. Once logged in to the Foundation Directory Online, click on Foundation Search. This will direct you to the "Foundation Search" page.
    
   
2. Click a search field heading to view an index for that search field.
    
   
3. It is best to choose several search terms that relate to your program. Limit the geographic location to "Oregon or national" to identify foundations that make grants to organizations in Oregon.
    
   
4. Once you've entered all of your search criteria, click the Search button to generate a results list. A new page is displayed, presenting your results list.
    
   
5. Each grantmaker name in this list links to a profile of that grantmaker. The default list display is organized alphabetically by Grantmaker Name. The results can be re-sorted by clicking on any of the three column headings: [Grantmaker Name, City/State, and Total Giving]. Clicking the same heading a second time reverses the sort, from ascending to descending order.
    
   
6. When you click on a grantmaker name in the results list, the grantmaker profile will open in a new window. The size and content of a grantmaker profile depends largely on the scope and nature of the funding programs and the availability of information on that specific grantmaker.
    
   
7. When an individual record is displayed, and there is more than one record in your results list, you may use the Previous Record and Next Record links for navigation through the list.
    
   
8. You may click the navigational links at the top of your page to display additional information about the grantmaker.
    
   
9. To print a grantmaker profile, press Control + P.
    
   
10. To save a grantmaker profile, select the text and click Copy on the Edit menu on your toolbar. Open Microsoft Word and Paste the profile into the document. Then click Save on the File menu on your toolbar.
