The Office of the Vice-President for Research has made funds available to
University Shared Resources to assist OHSU investigators in covering core costs
associated with the development and submission of new grants. The following
activities, commonly called 'pre-award consulting services', are generally the
activities for which investigators seek core assistance. They include:
- identification of appropriate core resources,
- experimental design,
- assay development, and
- generation of preliminary data.
OHSU investigators with insufficient funds to cover the costs of these essential
activities can apply to the Shared Resource Director. However, application of these
funds is at the discretion of the Director. The support covered by these funds may
include consultation time, reagents, supplies and technical staff time for pilot studies,
and other core costs required for assisting investigators in grant submission. Priority
is given to those with a strong record of scholarship, planned use of the core once the
grant is funded, and the home department's or individual investigator's willingness to
cost-share.
