Electronic Institutional Review Board (eIRB)
Notice: The IRB is totally electronic since September 1, 2005! As of September 1, 2005, the ORIO will no longer accept paper submissions for new and continuing reviews. All new protocols must be submitted through the eIRB, and all existing protocols must be converted at the time of continuing review. Please note that existing protocols will convert only at continuing review; not at the time of a modification, or a report of an adverse event, or protocol deviation. Paper submissions will be accepted for these actions until a study converts at its continuing review. Now, when you initiate an IRQ in the eIRB, you will be prompted to fill out an application for minimal risk review and/or an application
for exemption. These features are an attempt to incorporate the investigator's insight into the application process for lower risk
studies, so that the processing of the studies will be quicker. Please review the questions carefully when filling out the applications.
You are required to complete the forms for ALL studies, including a designation that you are not seeking exemption or minimal risk
review for studies that go to full board. The analysts and IRB Chairs will review the applications and determine whether the study
is exempt from IRB oversight, will go through an expedited review process or will be reviewed by the full board. If you have questions,

Welcome to the Electronic Institutional Review Board (eIRB) Home Page. Here you will find all the necessary resources to familiarize yourself with the new eIRB and everything it has to offer. The eIRB can be found at https://eirb.ohsu.edu/irb. The system is live; you may use the eIRB when creating new studies or continuing reviews. Effective Sept. 1, 2004, all new studies and actively enrolling studies requiring continuing review or approval should be entered into the system. The OHSU Research Integrity Office staff will be focusing on studies submitted via the eIRB system and investigators can expect faster service with electronic submission. Investigators and their staff using the old method should expect the administrative review process to be relatively longer then for an electronic submission. For practice purposes we have developed an eIRB Playground at http://irbdev/play/. Please feel free to explore the eIRB Playground and familiarize yourself with the new features and functionality the eIRB system has to offer. We at the Research Information Services (RIS) understand that any new software application can be somewhat intimidating at first and therefore will do our best to make this transition as easy and convenient as possible for you.
