All animal purchases must be placed through the DCM Department Purchasing Agent. Purchases or order modifications placed directly with any vendors by anyone other than the Department Purchasing Agent are prohibited. Animals received as a result of any unauthorized purchases may be subject to rejection.
 
Any purchase requests for animals other than rodents, amphibians or fish must be received 2 weeks prior to the requested arrival date to ensure all arrangements can be made to provide appropriate housing, supplies and support staff. All new large animal projects must be discussed with DCM well in advance of placing any orders.
 
All other animal purchase requests must be received by the DCM office no later than noon on Wednesday of the week prior to the requested arrival date. Orders for timed pregnant rodents must be placed prior to the breed date. However, Charles River/SASCO and Harlan often have past bred rodents available for delivery the following week. Surcharges for weekend breedings are no longer being applied by our approved rodent vendors.
 
Please note that animal purchase requests intended for direct placement into any barrier housing rooms can be ordered from the following 3 vendors only:

• Charles River Laboratories
• The Jackson Laboratory
• Taconic
