CUSTOMER TYPES
Internal: An OHSU employee with a valid network ID and password who has been approved by management for remote access.
Affiliate:A partner (e.g. VA Hospital) who has been approved for remote computing by authorized departmental management for the purpose of facilitating business partnerships or performing other OHSU-specific business tasks.
External: A non-OHSU employee (e.g. vendors) that has
been approved for remote computing by authorized departmental management
for identified, contract-specific work efforts.
**Note: OHSU does not extend remote computing services
to some, including, for example, student trainees accessing ePHI information;
lay volunteers performing routine, basic office tasks; and VIP visitors
and volunteers performing one-time, scheduled activities.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WTS AND VPN
Windows Terminal Services (WTS): This server-based method uses a secure internet-based protocol. It is the preferred option for accessing core OHSU applications and directories and accommodates most users' needs.
Virtual Private Network (VPN): This network-based method utilizes a secure protocol and may be the preferred option for Mac users or when WTS is not a viable option due to system requirements, resource constraints or other conflicting issues.
