Editor's Forword:

The following collection of cases represents a small fraction of the teaching file cases that Dr. Antonovic left to the Ruza Antonovic Learning Center. It has been my pleasure and privilege to work on this project for the past 20 months.

Having been a medical student at Oregon Health Science University in the 1980's, I remember Dr. Antonovic from a peripheral standpoint, and was either in awe of or intimidated by her, and never believe I actually engaged her in direct conversation. I do remember that there was a required course in radiology during my fourth year, when we had lectures in the evenings. After the lectures, we medical students broke into smaller groups that met individually with one of the radiology faculty. It was actually after a session with Dr. Antonovic when a fellow classmate put the radiology bug in my head by commenting on my ability to take a case from Dr. Antonovic. This is a true story! I even remember that it was a plain film of the abdomen showing ascites.

It is an honor to be succeeding Ruza at the VA Medical Center. It is nice to know that there is some form of continuity, with my training in thoracic radiology, my having been a medical student here at OHSU, and my having known who she was and a little something about her. I am thankful for the cases she left us, and thankful to you, the donors, for allowing me to contribute to such a project.
