Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program

Conferences

Of primary importance in this program are the two daily teaching conferences provided by the Radiology faculty directed solely for radiology resident education. An 11:30 a.m. didactic conference which is conducted by faculty on a rotating basis covers all of the major subspecialties in Diagnostic Radiology. A 12:30 p.m. film review conference follows which is also conducted by the faculty. Physics, radiobiology and radiation protection are taught in the physics course which is a series of lectures/problem sessions conducted weekly from January through September. In addition, a daily conference is held in angiography at 7:30 a.m. at which time cases for the day are presented and the preceding day's cases are reviewed under the direction of faculty (see conference schedule below).

AFIP
All residents attend the four week Radiology-Pathology Course at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington D.C., usually in their third year of residency. The department pays tuition, airfare, and a cost of living stipend.

Learning Center
The Radiology Learning Center is fully equiped and contains the complete American College of Radiology film file and CD-ROM collection. It also contains a wide variety of audiovisual materials including, a digital camera, videodisks, videotapes and CD-ROM computer programs. The center is equipped with two laser videodisk players, two PC computers with CD-ROM and modem capability including Internet access. The residents also have access to the computer services provided on the OHSU network. These include the Radiology Information System, DECRAD, hospital information system, on-line patient medical records, Medline, Ovid, e-mail, the Internet, and office automation products. They also have access to the computers in the Dotter Interventional Research Laboratory. Currently there are 127 workstations in the department with this access, 23 of which are designated for resident/staff use at reading stations or conference areas.

Teaching films include 10,260 museum cases and the ACR Learning File. The department library has approximately 750 books and subscribes to 14 radiology journals. A reserve shelf is available only to the residents to provide reference material for the on-call resident. The OHSU library has almost 200,000 volumes with 2,123 journal titles. The vast majority are available electronically.
