Personal Safety Services & Crime Prevention - Workplace Violence & Emergency Response
Emergency Response
For any emergency on campus, call 4-4444. This number is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and will be answered immediately by a trained dispatcher. Public Safety officers will respond to all emergency calls for assistance (e.g., medical emergency, fire, hazardous materials incident, crimes in progress, workplace violence incidents, etc. In certain situations, Public Safety may also request the assistance of other agencies, such as the Portland Police Bureau, paramedics, fire department, etc.
If for any reason the 4-4444 emergency number cannot be dialed, call 9-911 for emergency assistance. However, if this becomes necessary, please continue to attempt to contact Public Safety.

Workplace Violence Emergency
To immediately alert the dispatcher to a violent situation in progress or one that is imminent. A caller needs only to state "I need Dr. Strong at (your location) ." (what is Dr. Strong? - O-zone site) This will initiate an immediate response without additional information if for safety reasons the caller can not provide more details. However, the more information the caller can provide, the safest and most appropriate response our officers can provide. NOTE: This code phrase should only be used if violence is taking place or imminent.

Reporting Workplace Violence
All incidents of workplace violence should be reported immediately to Public Safety's emergency line at 4-4444, Human Resources at 4-6470, or a supervisor. When reporting workplace violence, Public Safety asks that you use the phrase "Doctor Strong" (what is Dr. Strong? O-zone site) when speaking to dispatch.

Non-emergency incidents should be reported to Public Safety by calling dispatch at 4-7744 and asking to speak with either the community service lieutenant or the director.

Safety Supervision
Public Safety officers are available to stand by for immediate assistance whenever safety is a concern. To request such a response, call dispatch at 4-7744 and ask to speak with either the community relations lieutenant or the on-duty operations lieutenant or supervisor.

Preventing Workplace Violence
Public Safety officers are available to conduct training for both individuals and groups on the identification and prevention of workplace violence. To request training or information, call dispatch at 4-7744 and ask to speak with the community service lieutenant.


Crime Preventions Services
The Public Safety staff is available to assess the security needs and opportunities of all OHSU facilities. Upon request, we will schedule an appointment to review physical security concerns (e.g., locks, doors, access control, parking areas, lighting, etc.), personal security concerns, and any other topic related to the safety and security of our community. To make an appointment or consult with Public Safety, call dispatch at 4-7744 and ask to speak with the administrative lieutenant.
