| CHIEF'S OWN WORDS
Since the events of September 11, 2001, we are all more anxious. While this is probably not “a good thing,” we areto a personalso more aware and more vigilant. It is this awareness and vigilance that I believe we can turn to our advantage and use to help keep our campuses, customers and employees safe.

Every public safety organization depends on the community it serves to be the eyes and ears of the organization. While we do have several officers on duty at all times (24 hours a day, seven days a week), we will never have enough officers to see everything. |
I encourage every employee to use our increased awareness and vigilance to OHSU’s advantage:
- Keep your eyes and ears open and immediately report anything suspicious.
- Avoid the temptation to stereotype people based on appearances. Use behaviors to decide if someone is suspicious.
- Encourage your co-workers to be safe by wearing identification and following standard safety and security practices, and reporting things that seem odd. This makes identifying the “out of place” individuals that much easier.
| All of our public safety employees take the threats against us seriously. While we have no information of specific threats against OHSU, we are still taking all reasonable precautions. I encourage everyone to help us keep you safe. As a team, I believe we can insure that our organization continues to carry out its mission of Healing, Teaching and Discovery in a safe environment. |
I am confident that the men and women of Public Safety are dedicated to these goals. My personal goal is to insure that all of you receive the highest level of service possible. I welcome your feedback and encourage you to use our Web site's 'Tell Us What You Think' page to do just that.
