Primary Mission within the Department

  • Creative thinking regarding our educational programs.
  • Skill in carrying out educational administrative needs, including communication with other depts.
  • Leadership regarding child/adolescent and incarceration public health issues in the community—serving as a bridge to policy applications.

Specific Activities

  • Direct the MPH program – meet with students and prospective students and provide the “glue” for administration, ongoing progress, and successful recruitment through completion of the program by all students.
  • Dream up and implement strategies and policies to make the program more successful in terms of quality and student completion.
  • Serve as Co-Investigator on Paths to Recovery grant to evaluate treatment recovery programs, as Co-Investigator and Director of Evaluation for the Center for Excellence in Women's Health, and as Principal Investigator on the Implementation of MET/CBTS and Parent/Teen Communication Enhancement projects.
Experience and Interests
As Director of the Epidemiology and Biostatistics track of the Oregon MPH Program, Katie Riley is responsible for track curriculum and administrative coordination and student interface and liaison activities with other Oregon MPH tracks. She is happy to answer all questions about the program. Her past experience includes administrative positions at OHSU and UCLA and teaching sociology of education topics at UCLA and sociology and minority relations in community colleges in California. She currently teaches Women's Health Epidemiology and Adolescent Risky Behavior Epidemiology (with Traci Rieckmann, PhD). Her research interests include group process, adolescent risky behavior, women's health, substance abuse, and educational evaluation.
