Experience and Interests Dr. Morris is an associate professor of medicine and of public health and
preventive medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland and holds
joint appointments in cardiology and nephrology. In addition, she is assistant
dean for admissions in the School of Medicine at OHSU. She received her PhD
from the University of Washington where her dissertation focussed on the long-term
clinical outcomes of surgical repair of congenital heart defects. Dr. Morris
has been on faculty at OHSU since 1984.
As an epidemiologist, Dr. Morris is interested in maternal and child health
and cardiology. She has additional expertise in nutritional epidemiology.
Dr. Morris directs an NIH-funded research group which focuses on the etiology
and long-term natural history of congenital heart disease. In 1982, she established
a population-based registry of all Oregon residents who have undergone congenital
heart defect surgery since 1958 which she continues to follow.
In addition, she has active research interests in the etiology of preeclampsia
and gestational hypertension and nonpharmacologic treatment of essential hypertension.
She was a principal investigator of the Calcium for Prevention of Preeclampsia
trial funded by NICHD. Dr. Morris also directs a data coordinating center
at OHSU for several large nutritional and pharmacologic trials.
