Position Summary: The essential functions of this position include conceptualizing and conducting a broad range of survey-based research and secondary analyses in areas such as teacher quality, teaching and learning, education policy and practice, and membership targeting/organizing; providing expertise and skills in advanced multivariate statistical methods; developing written reports, publications, graphics, and presentations accessible to diverse audiences.   Education Requirement: Ph.D. in Sociology, Economics, Statistics or Demography   Minimum Qualifications: Five years of progressively responsible experience in survey research involving the application of advanced statistical techniques in the analysis of complex data sets; experience in heading research projects; experience writing for professional and scholarly journals; proven ability to communicate complex ideas to professional and lay audiences.  

Selection Criteria: Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in conceptualizing, designing and conducting survey research on topics pertaining to K-12 and higher education.   Training and experience in advanced statistical methods such as demographic modeling, economic estimation techniques, forecasting, multi-level regression analysis (HLM), analysis of longitudinal data, discrete data analysis or meta-analysis.   Knowledge of key education policy issues, research literature and data sources relevant to public K-12 education and higher education.   Training and/or experience in conducting survey research, designing complex samples and computing appropriate tests of significance for complex designs.   Experience in using national data sets, particularly those maintained by NCES, Census Bureau, and other Federal agencies (e.g., Schools and Staffing Survey, Common Core of Data, American Community Surveys, Current Population Surveys, etc.).   Proven project management skills and ability to allocate time and resources toward the completion of multiple projects with overlapping timelines.   Demonstrated ability to synthesize and interpret quantitative research documents for professional and lay audiences, including training and/or experience in meta-analysis.   Proven oral and written communications skills.   Capacity to work effectively within the context of the NEA, an advocacy organization.   Knowledge or experience calculating the cost of projects, delineating the scope of work in contracts for services, and monitoring/evaluating contractor activities and products.   Membership and active participation in professional organizations.   Extensive networks within academic and policy communities.   EEO: All candidates will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, or disability. Program Coordinator for Underserved Communities

The Oregon Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence has a position available. You may remember that this is the organization where Terrie Quinteros, former director of PSJ's Crime Survivors for Community Safety program, is now the Executive Director. Organizational Overview:

The Oregon Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence (OCADSV) is a statewide nonprofit corporation comprised of member programs. We offer a number of support services to providers and community partners including systems advocacy; development and distribution of funds; information, referral and technical assistance; training and education; and shaping public policy around intimate partner violence, sexual assault and stalking. OCADSV was formed to support grassroots efforts at passing legislation important to the anti-violence movement, such as the landmark Oregon Abuse Prevention Act and the Rape in Marriage Law. OCADSV facilitates excellence in training, advocacy and support to programs.

Purpose of Position:

Under the direction of the Executive Director, and in collaboration with the Sexual Violence Program Coordinator, the Program Coordinator for Underserved Communities will develop a program of outreach and technical assistance to domestic violence and sexual assault programs regarding domestic and sexual violence prevention and intervention with an emphasis on underserved populations. Including but not limited to communities of color, gay, lesbian, bi and pansexual communities, trans communities, people in prison, immigrant communities, and people living with disabilities.

Essential Duties:

Technical Assistance: Provide technical assistance to domestic violence and sexual assault programs to support their capacity to provide appropriate services to people from underserved communities who are survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual violence. Provide information, resource materials, and referrals to domestic violence and sexual violence programs to assist them in program development. Provide this assistance through:

  • Telephonic and/or electronic consultation
  • Periodic mailings and /or publications
  • Site visits, as possible and as needed

    Research: Research and analyze materials on a variety of issues pertinent to violence against people from underserved populations, and disseminate to domestic violence and sexual violence programs as appropriate.

    Information Sharing: Develop and maintain a clearinghouse of resource information. Contribute articles to the OCADSV newsletter, E-newsletter and website. Coordinate regular review of resource library, identifying gaps and recommending new materials.

    Training: Identify training needs of domestic violence and sexual assault programs throughout the state. Recruit and develop a list of possible trainers for regional and statewide trainings. Develop and maintain a list of trainings provided by programs. Coordinate and conduct regional and statewide trainings related to domestic violence, sexual assault, oppression, and underserved populations. Contribute to content, design, and implementation of trainings.

    Conference/Meeting Coordination: Assist in the planning, provision and evaluation of annual statewide conference. Contribute to content, design, and implementation of events, trainings, and conferences.

    Project Coordination: Coordinate OCADSV's Awareness Month Activities. Coordinate and lead OCADSV Communities of Color Task Force. Coordinate and facilitate networking opportunities for people from underserved communities, including women of color gatherings. Coordinate projects as assigned.

    Additional Duties: Represent OCADSV on statewide committees.

    Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    Required Skills & Experience:

    1. At least five to seven years of experience working in the field of domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy, including prevention education, intervention or service provision.

    2. Demonstrated experience (minimum three years) in program development, and/or providing training and technical assistance.

    3. Demonstrated experience training or instructing individuals or groups concerning specific projects or processes.

    4. Knowledge of and experience with domestic violence and sexual assault service providers.

    5. Understanding of issues unique to both rural and urban programs, women, and underserved communities.

    6. A commitment to eliminating oppression and violence against all, especially women, through social change.

    7. An ability to grow, learn, lead, follow, organize, envision, and carry projects through to completion.

    8. Extensive knowledge of issues related to domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, oppression and underserved communities.

    9. Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

    10. Experience conducting research utilizing a wide range of sources including printed material, Internet, databases, and identification of alternative information sources.

    11. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    12. Knowledge and application of Microsoft Office Suite and World Wide Web.

    13. Must be organized, flexible, and multi-task oriented. Able to identify and respond to shifting priorities. Able to work within a team environment. Ability to handle a variety of tasks with urgent deadlines. Must be detail oriented.

    14. Ability to maintain positive, cooperative and professional demeanor with community-based domestic and sexual assault programs, OCADSV staff/board, vendors, consultants, allied professionals, and members of the public.

    15. Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge of issues involved in working with diverse populations and organizations.

    16. Willingness to abide by the mission and philosophy of OCADSV.

    17. Availability to travel statewide and nationally, some overnights and weekends.

    18. Have a car or access, insurance, and a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record.

    19. Along with other OCADSV staff, provide for coverage of office duties, including general phone work and errands.

    20. Along with other OCADSV staff, share in promoting solidarity, peer support, team problem solving, conflict resolution, and ethical communication among office staff, and throughout OCADSV.

    1. Experience living in or working with historically marginalized communities.

Stanton Glantz, Professor of Medicine and Director of the UC San Francisco Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education is seeking an individual interested in conducting research on the state and local policy making process as it relates to tobacco control. The project involves preparing detailed case studies on tobacco policy making in different states, including research on the development and passage (or defeat) of state and local tobacco control legislation, funding and management of tobacco control programs, efforts of public health advocates to promote public health programs and opposition by the tobacco industry and its allies and surrogates. Data collection will involve researching written records, campaign contribution information, interviews and field research. Strong analytical and writing skills are important. Oversight and support for this position will be provided by the Medical Director, and collaboration with the Education Coordinator is expected.

The incumbent is responsible for scientific and administrative activities
that support and advance the mission of DESPR and NIDA. For example,
· The scientific responsibilities include collaborating on various
