The PHPM Green Team

The PHPM Green Team was established in 2004 to encourage all staff members in the Department of Public Health & Preventive Medicine to participate in their efforts to be more conscious of what type of resources we use and how we use them. They welcome new members and challenge other departments at OHSU to create their own Green Teams.

Mission
The Green Team supports the Department’s definition of public health: "...The concerted efforts of a whole society to assure that all persons can live under conditions conducive to the maintenance of good health”, by reducing waste, conserving energy, and fostering respect for all people and their environment. The Green Team strives to increase awareness of the connection between environmental health and public health and of our responsibility as stewards of this planet and it’s people through outreach and education.

Accomplishments

  • Established a recycling center in a convenient location.
  • Designed a poster describing the relationship between good public health and improved environmental health. Individual actions are outlined with an emphasis on the fact that every action counts. To view the poster, click here.
  • Installed a bulletin board in the community kitchen to display tips, resources and articles.
  • Posted reminders to conserve energy and resources throughout the department and asked the front office to stop ordering foam cups and non-biodegradable soap.
  • Emailed monthly tips for creating a better environment at work and at home.
  • Compiled a list of web resources for further information. To see, click here.
