Letter from the Chairman
GEORGE KEEPERS, M.D.
Carruthers Professor and Chairman
Department of Psychiatry

WE ARE DELIGHTED that you are applying for psychiatric residency at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. Our department is devoted to providing an excellent psychiatric education for our residents. Carefully designed clinical rotations and extensive didactics combine to provide a broad, thorough education in general psychiatry. Residents are encouraged to develop their own special interests by tailoring certain rotations and elective experiences as they advance in the residency. They are assisted in this by a diverse, productive and extremely educationally oriented faculty who welcome their teaching responsibilities and personal interactions with residents. I believe this positive learning environment is essential to residency education. Faculty and residents work together to create a friendly atmosphere which encourages residents to reach their full potential as psychiatric physicians.

Selecting a residency program is a difficult and time consuming process. Our goal is to help you by providing as much information as possible on this web site. Of course, your interview visit is essential. There is no substitute for meeting fellow residents and faculty. We welcome your entry into our profession and will do everything we can to make your visit with us pleasant and productive. We are proud of our faculty, training programs and the overall efforts of OHSU where healing, teaching and discovery come together.
