Clinical and Scholarly Interests:

Kathryn J. Zerbe, M.D., is Professor and Vice Chairperson for Psychotherapy in the Department of Psychiatry at Oregon Health and Science University. She also holds a joint appointment as Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Zerbe is a Training and Supervising Psychoanalyst at the Oregon Psychoanalytic Institute.

A frequently requested speaker both nationally and internationally, Dr. Zerbe lectures on topics that include eating disorders, women’s health, professional well-being and the psychology of 19th and 20th Century artists. She has authored over 60 clinical papers and book chapters and four books, including The Body Betrayed: Women, Eating Disorders, and Treatment and the forthcoming Integrated Treatment of Eating Disorders: Beyond the Body Betrayed (W. W. Norton).

In 2005, Dr. Zerbe was recognized by the American Psychiatric Association and the Association of Women Psychiatrists with the Alexandra Symonds Award for "outstanding contributions to women's health and leadership in advancement of women." She has won various awards for her clinical teaching and writing, including, in 2007, the American Psychoanalytic Association's Edith Sabshin Teaching Award . Dr. Zerbe is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a Fellow of the Academy of Eating Disorders, and a Member of the American College of Psychiatrists and the American College of Psychoanalysts. She has been repeatedly selected as one of "America’s Top Doctors" by the Castle-Connolly Guide in the field of psychiatry.
