Clinical and Research Interests
Dr. Wheler treats patients who suffer from anxiety and stress-related mental health problems.
He is particularly interested in treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and researching the
impact of hormones, especially stress hormones, on behavior.
He has collaborated with endocrinologist, Lynn Loriaux, M.D., Ph.D., in studying Cortisol production rates as a marker
for stress in PTSD and with psychiatrist, J. David Kinzie, M.D., Director of the Torture Treatment Center of Oregon,
on the effects of stress from an endocrinological perspective. He is also interested in the study of the role of
peptides, taurine, transmitters and receptors in brain malfunction, and the effects of stress on development and
aging.
