Clinical and Scholarly Interests:
Dr. Singer has held joint faculty appointments in psychiatry and neurology at OHSU since 1988.
He is best known for his research in melatonin and the sleep disorders of aging, but current research
projects involve investigations of new medications to treat symptoms associated with Alzheimer’s
disease. His national media appearances have included ABC’s Good Morning America and
National Public Radio’s Morning Edition speaking on aging and sleep. Dr. Singer was
awarded the Oregon Gerontology Association’s Professional of the Year Award for 1993, and the
State of Oregon Division of Mental Health’s Award of Excellence in 1997 for his contributions to the
mental health of Oregonians. He is listed in the 1999-2000 Edition of Best Doctors in America and
is the current President of the Oregon Geriatrics Society and Oregon Medical Directors’ Association.
