Dr. Robert
Sack graduated from the University of Oregon Medical School, Portland Oregon, in
1968. After a rotating internship at Mary Hitchcock Hospital and Dartmouth
Medical Center, Dr. Sack completed his psychiatry residency training at Stanford
University Hospital and Clinics (1969 - 1972). Subsequently, he served for two
years as a clinical associate at the National Institutes of Mental Health (N.I.M.H.)
conducting clinical research on patients with manic-depressive disorders. He
then joined the faculty at Stanford for three years as an Assistant Professor
and Medical Director of the Ward Inpatient Service in the Department of
Psychiatry. In 1977, Dr. Sack returned to OHSU. Since 1980, he collaborated with
Al Lewy, M.D. in research on the relationships between circadian rhythms, light,
melatonin and sleep. He was certified by the Board of Sleep Disorders Medicine
in 1991. He served as Medical Director of the Sleep Disorders Medicine Clinic
until January 2006.
