Academic and Clinical Interests
Donald Rosen, MD, joined the department in 1999 as an assistant professor, training supervisor and
psychotherapist. In January 2001, Dr. Rosen was appointed associate training director for the OHSU
Psychiatry Residency Training Program, and in 2003, was promoted to director of the training program.
Dr. Rosen came to Oregon from Kansas where he directed multiple training programs at C.F. Menninger
Memorial Hospital, at the Menninger Clinic. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas;
completed his residency training as a Seeley Fellow at the Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry, and then
trained in psychoanalysis at the Topeka Institute for Psychoanalysis.
In addition to his work with the training program and his faculty practice patients, he is a staff psychiatrist for the
OHSU Joseph B. Trainer Health and Counseling Service for Students and House Staff, consultant to
the Oregon Impaired Physicians Program, consultant to the Oregon Attorney Assistance Program,
speaker for the Foundation for Medical Excellence, and is a member of the faculty and the executive committee
of the Oregon Psychoanalytic Institute.
His areas of professional and research interest include: professional boundary violations, physician impairment,
professional stress, psychiatric consultation, psychoanalysis, group psychotherapy, chemical dependence,
and survivors of sexual abuse.
