Academic and Clinical Experience

Dr. John Crossen joined the OHSU faculty as an assistant professor in the Division of Medical Psychology in 1987. He was appointed as an associate professor of medical psychology in 1995, and in 2001, he accepted the position of staff psychologist for the Joseph B. Trainer Student Health Service, where he provides assessments, therapy and counseling to individuals, couples, and families, and crisis and group psychological services. He also conducts a private practice in downtown Portland. His clinical activities include neuropsychological assessment of children and adults, PTSD assessment, disability assessment consultation, employer consultation, and individual therapy and counseling.

Dr. Crossen has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals, as well as chapters in textbooks of clinical psychology. His research areas include clinical neuropsychology, validation of assessment measures, and development of test norms. He has served on scientific review panels at the National Institute of Health.

He is active in teaching and supervising medical students and residents, and teaches psychology courses part-time at Portland State University.
