The
proposed Pacific Rim Vaccine Research Center is a small biosafety
level 3 (BSL-3) facility supporting vaccine development research.
The research center would be located on OHSU’s West Campus.
Purpose
- The facility will support
research associated with the Pacific
Rim Biodefense Center (PRBC). It will also serve as a regional
resource able to quickly respond in the event of a bioterrorism crisis.
- Scientists will be able
to shift research priorities rapidly in response to world events
or sudden disease outbreaks.
Features
- The center would contain
four separate laboratories, able to conduct research on four infectious
disease pathogens simultaneously.
- The center would include
imaging capability through the use of magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI) equipment.
- All safety and security
systems would be redundant, providing layer upon layer of protection
for employees and the public.
