Biography

Kara Berent is a physician assistant in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. She works directly with Dr. Yoo and Dr. Lin in their respective orthopedic clinics. Physicians assistants (PAs) are often referred to as mid-level providers. Physician assistants are highly trained members of our orthopedic surgery health care team who practice medicine with the supervision of licensed physicians, providing patients with a wide range of services that would otherwise be performed by physicians. Specific duties are defined by state regulation and practice setting, but include a variety of both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. They obtain medical histories, perform complete physical examinations and minor surgical procedures, diagnose illnesses, order and interpret routine diagnostic tests, develop treatment and management plans, suture wounds, set fractures, assist in surgery, and provide education to patients regarding illness, health promotion and disease prevention.

This provider didn't even bother to answer my husband questions. We were there on a referral from our PCP due to having a failed fussion. Your spine clinic WAS supposed to be the best around and could fix him. However they didn't even listen nor ask if we had any concerns or advice on how to get my husband his life back.

This provider didn't seem to care or want to deal with me at all. I had explained things like the fact that I had tried PT and it didn't work but later she suggested that that would help me. I explained again that I had tried that and it didn't help and I am experiencing pain in my neck and she told me that she doesn't think that my neck hurts, I felt like she didn't listen at all and didn't care. I wasted my time going there and was very disappointed. This was the worst experience I have ever had at a doctors office.

Provider did not return phone call; provider staff resistant/belligerent when requesting return phone call.

The provider was great but the wait time it takes with the clinic to make an appointment or see someone makes me less likely to recommend the clinic.

I was so impressed with Kara and later in the appointment with Dr. Yoo. The appointment was right on time, we had a maybe five minute wait. I have a complicated problem with my spine and Kara and Dr. Yoo explained as best they could some options to move forward. They were honest regarding my prognosis good and bad. I appreciate that kind of honesty and I have some thinking to do and decisions to make. I felt like I was very much included on how we move forward. I felt very confident and at ease with both provider and I felt like they spent adequate time with me. I didn't feel in a hurry at all.

Did not feel that all issues about my pain and problems were discussed about enough so the surgen knew where and what to look at and to work on.

She let us ask questions and compare sample material with x-rays, so a better understanding of condition and instrumental procedure needed to put back in alignment and hopefully end up with less pain
