About me
Elizabeth Kavanaugh has a special interest in supporting normal birth and also in the care of Latinas. Her professional interests include low intervention birth, health disparities and international health. She gets great satisfaction from seeing women at every life stage empowered by good health care decisions. Elizabeth values the blend of art and science in the practice of midwifery at OHSU. Elizabeth feels extremely honored to be present with families for the utterly amazing experience of childbirth.
Originally from San Francisco, but an Oregonian since 1976, Elizabeth decided to practice at OHSU in 1988 because of the diverse patient population. After 12 years of labor and delivery nursing, Elizabeth became a certified nurse-midwife in 1999. She loves working with the variety of cultures and care scenarios present at OHSU. When Elizabeth is not at work, she loves watching her three children do whatever they do.
Pregnancy and childbirth philosophy:
"Pregnancy and birth are normal physiologic events. While a healthy mother and baby are the ultimate goals, the process of arriving there is a vital part of the experience. There are a wide range of safe options that support this process and a woman's choice is the best place to start in facilitating the process."

Insurance
Before scheduling your appointment, we recommend you contact your insurance company to verify that the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is included in your network. Your insurance company will also be able to inform you of any copayments, co–insurance, or deductibles that will be your responsibility. If you proceed in scheduling an appointment and your health insurance benefits do not participate with OHSU providers, your out of pocket liability may be higher. Visit the billing and insurance section of our site for more information.
