Services and Costs
We currently offer the following services:
- Consultation on planning your Proteomics experiments
- Protein identification from 2D gel spots and 1D gel bands
- Protein identification from simple or complex solution digests
- Protein MW determination (accurate to ~0.01% of total MW)
- Identification of Phosphorylation sites and other post-translational modifications
- Relative protein quantification using iTRAQ, O16/O18, and spectral counting
- Sensitive imaging of gels stained with fluorescent and non-fluorescent stains
- Software to enable 2D gel based expression analysis including DIGE
- Enzymatic digests
Costs
Work done through the Proteomics Shared Resource is based on an hourly fee, with projects from 'for-profit' labs charged at 150% of the listed hourly rate:
-$40/hour for staff time
-$60/hour for analysis time on a Mass Spectrometer
-Cost of supplies for specialized procedures
Identification of proteins in a single LC/MS analysis (including preparation of the digest) costs about $150 - $200. The cost of a two-dimensional liquid chromotography/mass spectrometry (2D-LC/MS) analysis is approximately $1,500.
For examples of how the costs are derived click here.
The cost per sample goes down significantly as the number of samples increases. This is because certain processes, such as trypsin digests and data analysis, can be done in batches without adding much to the total staff time.
Initial Consultation on a project with PSR is recommended to avoid problems arising in the sample preparation process. Mass Spectrometers are highly sensitive instruments and require very clean samples to give the best results. The fee for hourly staff time is waived for the initial consultation(s) to encourage coordination with PSR. Also, a list of some recommended procedures can be found in the “Procedures and Downloads” section of the website. After consulting with PSR some of these procedures can be done in your laboratory using either your own reagents or some of ours. We can work with you to help you learn these procedures saving you money on future experiments done through PSR.
