Guidelines for letters of recommendation

Letters of recommendation should be written by a professional colleague (not limited to other dentists) who can attest to the adjunct faculty candidate as a dentist, not someone who only knows them as a friend. Topics to be included in the letter are:

The relationship of the writer to the candidate
How long the writer has known the candidate in a professional capacity
A statement of the candidate’s overall ability as a dentist (not details such as “she does great crowns”)
A statement of the candidate’s professional honesty and integrity

If the writer knows of the candidate’s involvement in professional organizations, that information would be welcomed also.

Letters are expected to be brief and do not need to exceed one page in length.
