California Governor Signs POLST Into Law

August 4, 2008

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed Assembly Bill 3000 into legislative law, ensuring that persons with a serious illness who complete a POLST form will have their end of life treatment preferences honored by health care professionals. Click here to read more about POLST in California from the California Coalition for Compassionate Care.  Click here for press release.

Respecting Choices®, an Advance Care Planning Service based in LaCrosse, WI, is offering a new training program that will improve the skill of health care professionals in facilitating discussions to help patients or their surrogates make informed decisions when completing a POLST paradigm form.  

This new curriculum includes both a POLST paradigm facilitator training and an instructor certification. MOLST Signed Into Law

July 9, 2008

New York Governor David Paterson signs Medical Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (MOLST) into law.  “Now that MOLST is available statewide, more people will have greater peace of mind knowing that this form will help reduce uncertainty about their treatment preferences, allowing loved ones in decline to write their own final chapter,” said Patricia Bomba, MD. For more information about MOLST go to www.compassionandsupport.org.   Click here to read press release.
