California Governor Signs POLST Into Law

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed Assembly Bill 3000 into legislative law, ensuring that persons with a serious illness who complete a POLST form will have their end of life treatment preferences honored by health care professionals. Respecting Choices®, an Advance Care Planning Service based in LaCrosse, WI, is offering a new training program that will improve the skill of health care professionals in facilitating discussions to help patients or their surrogates make informed decisions when completing a POLST paradigm form.
This new curriculum includes both a POLST paradigm facilitator training and an instructor certification. The certification qualifies instructors to lead the POLST paradigm facilitator training and to regionalize the curriculum for their state. Click here to learn more about the facilitator course. New York Governor David Paterson signs Medical Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (MOLST) into law. “Now that MOLST is available statewide, more people will have greater peace of mind knowing that
this form will help reduce uncertainty about their treatment preferences, allowing loved ones in decline

The conference was targeted to colleagues building, or considering the development of, a POLST paradigm program, as well as to colleagues with significant POLST paradigm experience.
