Shandiz Tehrani M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Tehrani's research interests include the cellular and molecular mechanisms of glaucomatous optic nerve damage, with the ultimate goal of identifying novel pathways for therapeutic intervention. Specific projects in the laboratory include determining the cellular and signaling response of optic nerve head astrocytes (the local glial support cells for axons) to elevated intraocular pressure, and developing local delivery of small molecule drugs to the optic nerve head for exploratory and therapeutic intervention in experimental glaucoma. We occasionally have opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to join the lab. Send inquiries and CV to Shandiz Tehrani.
