My interests in professional nursing incorporate and support the missions of teaching, practice, and scholarship. I value and strive towards the goal of being an expert teacher and clinician. I have extensive teaching experience in undergraduate and graduate nursing education and currently serve as a teacher, mentor, and resource for students of the FNP and DNP program. I believe in the power of "stories" from my 18 years of critical care nursing and 19 years of advanced practice to inform and inspire students. I seek to influence at the national level the education, practice, and scholarship through my involvement with nursing organizations such as NONPF, AANP, RNO, and AAMN and as a manuscript reviewer for numerous nursing journals.

As an FNP, I strive to offer client-focused, collaborative care incorporating health promotion and prevention. As a current volunteer clinician, I care for the primary and acute care needs of uninsured patients at a community clinic in Hillsboro. My scholarly work includes numerous articles on practice-related and theoretical topics for peer-reviewed journals. As the Director of the Rural Health Track since 2011 and recent PI for two SON HRSA grants, I seek ways to expand nurses influence in the care of rural and underserved populations. My previous research interests focused on the inter-relationships between the natural environment and healthcare systems; seeking to promote a "Greener" nursing practice.
