Biography

Dr. Elliot joined the faculty at OHSU in 1980, and she has been a Professor of Medicine since 1993. She has a long history of successfully funded large-scale prospective pragmatic trials of school-based and worksite-centered health promotion programs to promote well being. She has developed evidence-based award winning programs for adolescents, firefighters, other first responders, young employees and home care workers. She was among faculty that founded the Human Performance Laboratory at OHSU, which remains a state-of-the-art facility for exercise testing and training. It is a resource for both patient evaluation and for investigators from diverse fields. She continuously has been involved with medical student and resident education, as well as faculty development. She is a Fellow of both the American College of Physicians and American College of Sports Medicine. She is an expert in sports medicine and behavior change, including working with national organizations and testifying before Congress on the health of young women athletes. She has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed articles and three books. Current funded projects involve health promotion/harm reduction for young women in the juvenile justice system, understanding the stress among correction officers and documenting benefits of physical activity for those with physical disabilities.
