Research Volunteer Help Center
Only through research can we discover better treatments and eventually the cause and cure for Parkinson's disease (PD). This is the primary mission of the OHSU Parkinson Center of Oregon (PCO). But we can't do it alone. Our success in developing new drugs and therapies for PD hinges on people, like you, who have PD and volunteer to participate in research studies.
At any given time there are approximately 15 studies recruiting volunteers at the OHSU PCO, covering a wide range of health care issues specific to Parkinson's disease (PD). Research is an integral part of our multidisciplinary approach to optimizing your PD treatment. If you have been interested in participating in a clinical research trial, but you don't know how to get involved or what is expected of you, you are not alone. The clinical researchers and staff at the OHSU PCO have discovered that numerous people with Parkinson's share your feelings.
In the following articles, we plan to answer some general questions about research, to tell you about important past research at the OHSU PCO, to outline what you can expect to experience in a clinical research trial and to focus on questions you should ask before entering a clinical research study.
As your participation is vital to our success, our hope is that after reading this issue you will be interested in taking part in a research study. Our study coordinators at the OHSU PCO coordinators are available to answer any questions you may have about studies and to talk with you about research opportunities.
