Assignment Due Today:

Students should watch the online video of a physician performing a history and physical and then write up the encounter using the format provided in the syllabus (video is below in "Group Activities" section). Students should bring 11 copies of their write up to class.
Students should review the written presentation examples and come to critique them in the small group setting.

Session Goal: To demonstrate how essential information is identified, extracted, and systematically ordered in a general case presentation.

To provide an opportunity for students to prepare and practice giving a general case presentation with the benefit of constructive feedback.

 
 
Student Objectives:
Describe the elements of a complete History and Physical presentation.

Describe what elements are considered subjective or objective.

Describe where in the History and Physical each element or piece of data belongs.

Describe how the content of the written presentation will vary depending on the context of the visit and presentation.

Demonstrate ability to write a patient History and Physical.
 
Small Group Activities:
  1. Small groups will review the student write-ups and provide constructive feedback on content and organization. Specific questions that may be asked include: Is every element in the correct place? Did the presentation answer all of my questions?


  2. Examples of written presentations will be provided. These presentations will include examples of common mistakes. Each group will review the examples and identify those mistakes.

Assignment Due Sep 23:
Students should preview the Cardiovascular Exam lecture and the "Heart" and "Pulses" exams on the physical exam DVD on PCM Online prior to today's session.
