Surgical Pathology

Based in Dillehunt Hall, the Surgical Pathology Division processes over 17,000 cases per year, of which approximately 10% are consultation cases. The cases originate from OHSU Hospital, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and Shriner’s Hospital. Not included are Hematopathology and Dermatopathology cases, which are accessioned and reviewed by separate services.

Gross examination of specimens is performed by three residents and two physician assistants, with backup by two surgical pathology fellows and the faculty. The Division has a busy frozen section service and is supported by excellent histology and immunohistochemistry laboratories. In addition, cytogenetic, molecular pathology and electron microscopic services are available on campus to aid in the diagnosis of challenging cases. Faculty serving in the Surgical Pathology Division have expertise across a broad range of subspecialties.
