Surgical Pathology
Based in Dillehunt Hall, the Surgical Pathology Division processes approximately 13,000 cases per year. This includes material from OHSU Hospital, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and Shriner’s Hospital. In addition, the division reviews approximately 1,000 consultation cases each year. Hematopathology and dermatopathology cases are reviewed by separate services.
Gross examination of specimens is handled by three residents and two physician assistants, with backup by one or more surgical pathology fellows and the faculty. The Division has a busy frozen section service and is supported by excellent histology and immunohistochemistry laboratories. In addition, cytogenetic, molecular pathology and electron microscopic services are available on campus to aid in the diagnosis of challenging cases. Faculty serving in the Surgical Pathology Division have expertise in a number of areas.
