Through support from the OHSU Cancer Institute, a growing collection of normal and neoplastic human tissues is available to local investigators. The tissues are stored in several ways, each one optimal for a particular use.
Paraffin-embedded, from formalin- or ethanol-fixed tissue:
Optimal for H&E stains and many types of special stains.
Frozen (bulk tissue):
Suitable for DNA, RNA or protein extractions.
Frozen (OCT-embedded):
Optimal for cryostat sections and immunohistochemistry.
DNA or RNA:
Prepared upon request from bulk tissue and ready for analysis.
The laboratory can assist individual investigators in optimizing the collection of tissues from research animals.
