KIT Mutations In AML and Myeloproliferative Disease (MPD)
Test Description
KIT gene mutations in cases of AML and myeloproliferative disease are screened by high resolution melting curve analysis. Suspected mutations are confirmed by bi-directional DNA sequencing. The sensitivity of these assays is estimated at 20% mutant cells. Samples with smaller fractions of mutant cells may be unsuitable.
Specimens Suitable For Testing
| Diagnosis | Bone marrow core | Bone marrow clot | Bone marrow aspirate | Blood* | Skin bx | GI bx |
| Myeloproliferative dis. | √ | √ | √ | No | N/A | N/A |
| AML | √ | √ | √ | √ | N/A | N/A |
* Blood: Not recommended for myeloproliferative disorders, unless a significant fraction of circulating cells are likely to be mutant.
