About the Interview Day
Applicants have the opportunity to meet current residents during the interview day. Current residents host each candidate during the campus & facility tour, and you’ll have an additional opportunity to meet other trainees in the department during lunch.
If you are invited to interview and have a focused pathology interest, it may be possible also to arrange an informational interview with a specific faculty member. Let us know when you receive your invitation to interview.
Candidates will each have 25-minutes of flex-time in their interview day schedules to participate in other activities. Options include:
- Explore campus on your own (Aerial Tram pass available)
- Tour the Pathology Translational Research Lab
- Informational interview with a subspecialty fellow
- Informal chat with a faculty member about neighborhoods, schools, and family life in Portland
- Interview with a specific faculty member (if available)
Please let us know if you need accommodation for a disability or other special needs on your interview day. OHSU offers nursing stations and refrigeration is available for milk storage for breastfeeding mothers.
Parking, Tram & Transportation
If you are traveling to Marquam Hill by car or via the Portland Aerial Tram, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can arrange a courtesy pass. Please contact us if you have additional travel-related questions. For additional transportation information, please see Visiting OHSU & Oregon.
Resident Appointment Agreement Disclosure
We are required by the NRMP to provide a copy of the OHSU Resident Appointment Agreement to you for your review prior to ranking you. On your interview day, you’ll be asked to sign an acknowledgement that you have read the document.
On the day of your interview – finding your way:
Our first meeting of the day will be held in the Hatfield Research Center, adjacent to our new state-of-the art clinical laboratory facilities. Use this map of OHSU’s Marquam Hill Campus to locate this building, circled in purple, #5 on the map. Enter through the front door closest to the bus stop on SW Sam Jackson Park Road and wait within sight of Senator Hatfield’s statue in the lobby. We will start checking at about 8:05 am for our candidates, and escort them to the conference room where the meeting will be held.
Coffee, fruit and pastries will be waiting to welcome you. If you have any trouble finding the meeting location or are running late, please call our main office at 503-494-8276 for assistance. Our administrative office opens at 8:00 am and anyone who answers the phone can assist you.
For your reference, the three other places nearby where you will be interviewed and have lunch—Dillehunt Hall, Richard Jones Hall for the Basic Medical Sciences, and the Marquam Room at MacKenzie Hall cafeteria—also are marked on your map. Our administrative staff will escort you from interview to interview and secure any belongings that you will not need during the interview day.
Please see our Visiting OHSU & Oregon page for a list of discount rates at recommended local hotels for visiting applicants. There, you will also find many additional travel resources including directions to our campus and information about various public transportation options.
