Resident Call Assignment

Call is assigned based on the overall number of residents. With a full complement of twelve residents, call basically breaks down to one day of call out of every twelve days. Any extra days are assigned to residents based on seniority (i.e., the junior residents may cover an extra day or two of call, as 365 days are not cleanly divisible by 12). In order to ensure compliance with duty hour regulations, call is generally not scheduled while a resident is on the OHSU-surgical pathology rotation. If the call schedule requires a resident to be on call during an OHSU-surgical pathology rotation, the call will generally be on a Friday night with the resident having no specific duties on the following day, thus minimizing the impact on duty hours. Occasionally, a resident on the OHSU-surgical pathology rotation may be assigned non-Friday calls to ensure coverage during holiday periods, in these cases, if necessary; accommodations will be made to comply with duty hour regulations.
